Attendance at Class
  • Every candidate is obliged to attend all the classes of every prescribed subject. The professor, at the time of evaluation of any subject, will take into account also the attendance at class of the candidate concerned. A candidate who has been absent for 50% or more of the classes in any subject, has to repeat that particular subject.

  • A candidate who has been absent for more than one third and less than 50% of the classes in a particular subject, loses the right to appear for the examination in the subject concerned, during that session.
    Seminars and Written Assignments
  • All written assignments should either be computer-printed or typewritten.

  • During the B.Th.Course, the students are expected to submit a minimum of five written assignments (scientific papers) each in the course of the first two years; and four assignments during the third year of Theology (besides the seminars and the final written dissertation). The length of the written assignments shall be from ten to fifteen foolscap pages.

  • For the B.Th.Course, two seminars have been prescribed, one each in Sacred Scripture and Systematic Theology. The seminar involves:
    • Personal reading and study of the topic;
    • Exposition (10-15 min.) and discussion in the group (10-15 min.) together with the professor;
    • Presentation of a written paper
    Frequency of Examinations for the B.Th & Philosophy
  • When visiting professors are involved, extraordinary sessions of examinations are generally held soon after the course after the interval of a day (which may also be a Thursday or a Sunday) for preparation.

  • Three times a year (normally during the second week of June, the third week of September, and the second week of January), repeat sessions of examinations are held for those who have failed to make the grade.

    Mode of conducting Examinations for the B.Th and Philosophy

    Examinations are conducted in one of the following ways:

  • Only an oral examination lasting not less than 15 minutes in subjects of more than two credits (one credit is equivalent to twelve periods), and not less than 10 minutes in the others..

  • When visiting professors are involved, extraordinary sessions of examinations are generally held soon after the course after the interval of a day (which may also be a Thursday or a Sunday) for preparation.

  • An oral or written examination carrying 60% of the marks with the rest (40%) allotted for written assignments.

    Mode of conducting Examinations for the M.Th.

    The M.Th. examinations can be held in one of the following ways:

  • Class presentation of the topic AND an examination lasting not more than 15 minutes on topics covered (other than what has been presented)

  • Class presentation on a suggested topic AND a scientific paper on the same.

  • Five short scientific papers on the topics treated in class integrating suggested readings and personal reflection.

  • One scientific paper which covers all the important topics, integrating suggested readings and personal reflection.

  • Any other modality left to the discretion of the professor, provided the workload involved does not exceed the above.

  • In case an examination/assignment is not done/ submitted Within the specified deadline, a further grace period will be allowed till the end of the following trimester; failing which, it can only be done/submitted when the selfsame course is once again offered by the department.

The academic year consists of 197 working days divided into three trimesters:

  • I Trimester

  • 2nd September 2019 - 2nd December 2019
  • III Trimester
  • 3rd December 2019 - 19th March 2020
