The first batch of Pastoral Communication, first of its kind in Asia, started at Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore with 30 participants on 7 January 2017. The participants ranged from all over India and one from Sri Lanka. The course lasts for three months integrated with theory and practice. Fr. Jude Poopana, the Principal of KJC welcomed the students after lighting digitally 50 lamps by the participants to mark the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of KJC.

During the Inaugural ceremony, a short Audio Visual prayer service set the tone to the day. Fr. Alex Kalathikattil sdb, the vice rector of the community at KJC gave a message that the need for making communication as the identity of the Church and Ministers today. Fr. Jude stressed the need to integrate theology and communication in our theologisation. While introducing the dynamics of the course, Fr. Gilbert Choondal sdb, the coordinator of the Course stressed the objectives and process of the course. "The course is not meant to make anyone here technocrats or professionals in communication or any media. That is possible and available in society. But, we focus on our pastoral ministry to make them more effective," clarified Fr. Gilbert during his presentation. The course was initiated to mark the Golden Jubilee of Kristu Jyoti College which was begun in 1967.
