On 18th March 2021 at 10.00 am, twenty one brotherswere ordained deaconsinKristu Jyoti College by Rev. Dr. Peter Machado,
the Archbishop of Bangalore. It was a happy event for the college, the deacons and their family members who were present
at the occasion. According to the tradition of the Church, deacons are ordained "in order to serve." The Catechism of
the Catholic Church teaches that "Deacons share in Christ's mission and grace in a special way. The sacrament of
Holy Orders marks them with an imprint which cannot be removed and which configures them to Christ, who made
himself the "deacon" or servant of all. Among other tasks, it is the task of deacons to assist the bishop
and priests in the celebration of the divine mysteries, above all the Eucharist, in the distribution of
Holy Communion, in assisting at and blessing marriages, in the proclamation of the Gospel and preaching,
in presiding over funerals, and in dedicating themselves to the various ministries of charity (CCC 1570)."
The celebration was wonderfully organised by the Sacred Heart community of Kristu Jyoti College, together with
the collaboration of sisters from Snehalaya. There were many representatives from the different provinces, communities,
parishes, and families to make the day memorable and meaningful. The Holy Eucharist was telecast online by the Aflame
Ministry group in its You-Tube Channel. At the end of the ceremony, archdeacon Chandra Mohan thanked everyone for their
presence, support, and prayers. The Holy Mass was followed by an 'agape'meal for all. People were happy and contended
after the event and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to each other.
